The England Boxing Women’s Winter Box Cup 2019 has proven to be a big hit – with all 250 places already filled!

Last year’s inaugural competition was the first of its type in the UK and impressed participants and onlookers alike, with Britain’s first professional Commonwealth champion Stacey Copeland among those to voice their approval.

Almost 190 boxers entered the 2018 edition, but the take-up for this year’s competition has far eclipsed that demand and means no more entries are now being accepted.

This year’s venue, the Guildford Spectrum, takes the competition to the South for the first time after it was held at the George H Carnall Leisure Centre in Urmston, Manchester last year.

It will host three rings on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December, up from two in 2018, to cater for the increased demand.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the amazing number of applications for this year’s England Boxing Women’s Winter Box Cup 2019,” said Lynsey Lockey, England Boxing’s Competitions and Events Manager.

“For entries to be full more than a month in advance just goes to show how rapidly the popularity of boxing is rising among women and girls, not just across England but overseas too.

“We have a good mixture of boxers from different countries travelling to take part, but there’s also a very healthy contingent from up and down the country, which is great for our own development of women and girls’ boxing.”

Spectators will be welcome to attend and tickets can be purchased on the day for £20 adults, £10 for concessions and £5 for children. Under-5s are free.

Doors open 11am Saturday and boxing commences 12pm, while doors are open at 10am on Sunday and boxing commences 11am.
