England Boxing’s Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme is aimed at teenage boxers who have the realistic potential to achieve excellence in boxing, but who are keen to continue their education at the same time.

It allows elite and aspiring boxers aged 16 to 19 to train full-time in boxing while gaining qualifications at that can benefit them outside of the ring.

How the programme works

DiSE is a government-supported and funded initiative (implemented and developed by England Boxing’s partners SkillsActive) aimed at recognising and supporting the development of young, talented athletes.

The programme, delivered over a period of two years, offers a combination of educational opportunities and high-performance boxing training, where students can earn qualifications for their boxing development.

The DiSE programme is an essential part of England Boxing’s long-term athlete development pathway. Through it, England Boxing hopes to provide talented young boxers with the opportunity to fulfil their potential and progress into future England and GB international boxers.

Sports leaders of the future

At the same time, it also seeks to develop athletes in other areas such as sports science, sports development, elite coaching or sports administration – England Boxing’s leaders of the future.

Students also have the chance to qualify for external educational qualifications such as GCSEs, A Levels or equivalent vocational qualifications in a wide range of subjects, chosen by the individual, with college guidance. For more detailed information visit:

Who is eligible?

DiSE is designed for the following categories of athlete:

  • Boxers between the ages of 16-18 years
  • Boxers who are, or show the potential to become, elite level
  • Boxers are also expected to have GCSE grades A*-C in English and Maths (boxers not achieving these grades may still be trialled for the course).
  • Boxers registered with England Boxing-affiliated club only

Boxers interested in the programme but feel that they do not meet one of the above categories can still apply and will be given an opportunity to be assessed at an open assessment day.
