The Level 3 Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) Programme is now recruiting for its new intake of boxers for September 2021.
The official-endorsed boxing qualification recognised by England Boxing supports talented and committed young athletes who have realistic potential to be high achievers in their sport across six hubs around the country.
Despite the current halt to proceedings in gyms across the country because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, and resulting lockdown, DiSE is still offering remote interviews for England Boxing-affiliated boxers to join in the autumn.
Potential students must be at the age where they have just completed their GCSE studies and are looking to move into further education.
“Our current cohort off first year boxers have been training with us since September 2020 and, even though we’ve not being able to spar or do pads, the constraints have made us all adapt and evolve as athletes, jus and coaches,” said Adam Haniver, DiSE Coach at Greater Brighton Metropolitan College.
“Yes, these are very strange and uncertain times, but we continue to invest in our students so they have the best opportunities as performers and within their exit pathways as professional people.
“All six academies continue to do online sessions with their boxers to ensure continued development and the hope will be that as we move into the next academic year, and subject to government guidelines, contact boxing will resume.”
DiSE is not just about boxing excellence, but academic progress in the classroom too.
Over the two-year programme, the boxers work towards their a main study course, such as a BTEC or NCFE.
Since the inception of the DiSE course in 2010, thousands of boxers have gone on to compete for their country and become professional boxers or have gone onto higher education to gain degrees and move into the workplace.
Many now work in the sport sector as personal trainers, gym instructors and also as boxing coaches.
There are 100 places available nationally, so it is aimed at elite level or potentially elite level boxers.
