England Boxing successfully delivered a BOX course in partnership with Active Surrey for a group of secondary school teachers as part of their Continuing Professional Development.

This is one in a series that has been used by the Active Partnership in Surrey to help get more people active and involved with sport.

The BOX delivery is part of the Secondary Education Teacher Training (SETT) programme. Surrey schools have signed up for this academic year to receive funded training across all sports and mental wellbeing.

At the start of the programme schools were asked what additional sports and CPD training they would like to receive. 37 out of 54 on the schools on the initiative expressed an interest in some form of boxing training that they could deliver in school to their students.

The course was delivered at Leatherhead Leisure Centre by Adam Haniver, a DiSE Lead Coach, England Talent Pathway Coach, Eastbourne ABC Head Coach and joint founder of the BOX Gathering.

“The teachers have said that the course was absolutely excellent, and that Adam was a great tutor,” said Emma Watkins, Active Surrey Schools Project Lead.

“We are looking forward to getting another group of teachers trained up later in the year.”

England Boxing’s Club Support Officer for the Southern Counties, Avoen Perryman, added: “Feedback from the teachers in attendance at the course was extremely positive.

“It’s always so wonderful to see so many schools who are keen to start delivering some introductory non-contact training with their students.

“It can only be a positive impact for our sport and clubs in the community, who will be likely to have more young people joining their clubs after having received an introduction to boxing at their schools.

And obviously the schools themselves get to deliver something new and engaging for their young people that will help to lead them into an active lifestyle for years to come. Everyone’s a winner!”
