George Crotty was narrowly beaten as the only England boxer in action on the sixth day of the AIBA Men’s World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

In a fiercely contested bout, the Royal Navy boxer was on the wrong end of a 4-1 split decision against Kyrgyzstan’s Omurbek Bekzhigit Uulu.

After being handed a bye for the opening round, it means Crotty exits at the round of 32 stage.

Three boxers will represent England tomorrow (Sunday 31st October) with all three competing for a place in their respective quarter-finals.

First up is cruiserweight Conner Tudsbury who faces Slovakia’s Matus Strnisko followed by Delicious Orie, who takes on Lazizbek Mullojonov of Uzbekistan.

Concluding the days action is Lewis Williams, who will be hoping to earn his third win of the competition when he steps through the ropes against Ukraine’s Robert Marton.
