Why clubs need your support to #KOCOVID19: Fox ABC
April 8, 2020 | by Matt Halfpenny
It’s a difficult time for many boxing clubs up and down the country, but Fox ABC have been harder hit than most in the past few weeks.
It has been bad enough that, like other venues across the country, the gym was forced to temporarily shut in order to follow the government’s Coronavirus guidelines.
But then the Failsworth-based club – where former world champion Anthony Crolla learned to box – suffered the devastating news that the building that housed the club, Morton Mill, was burned to the ground on Sunday 29th March.
Thousands of pounds worth of equipment, priceless photographs, trophies, belts and memorabilia went up in the blaze, meaning the memories made down the years since Jimmy Lewis started the club more than 40 years ago have been lost.
But the club’s officials coaches and boxers are determined that a club that is packed out five nights a week won’t die, despite this incident and additional hard times because of the COVID-19 situation.
Anyone who is kind enough to donate in any way, big or small, can know that their money will go towards the rebuilding of the club and the buying of new kit, gloves, pads, head guards and bags for the kids to use.
By doing so, it will help Fox continue to keep kids off the streets, where they can get into trouble, and, at the same time, turn out champions for the local area.
