Sport England’s Small Grants Programme has had funding increased by 50% upon its return, with maximum grants now reaching £15,000 until the end of June 2023.

The programme was paused in 2022 as Sport England launched the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Activity Fund which focused on bringing the community together through activity.

The Small Grants Programme instead focuses on providing sport and physical activity for individuals who need it most, with priority on projects that can make the biggest difference, including working with people living in areas of disadvantage. Projects which focus on environmental sustainability or bringing communities together will also be prioritised.

With its return, the Small Grants award limit has been upped from £10,000 to £15,000 and applications for awards can be made from between £300 to £15,000. Organisations can have multiple applications granted, but all awards must total £15,000 or less in any 12-month period. Only non-for-profit organisations are eligible.

Applications should explain the need for the project, how end users will be involved in its development, and how the project adds value to services that are already accessible to the community.

The closing date for applications to the programme is 30th June.
