In the second of our series featuring DiSE boxers past and present, current second year student at University College Birmingham (UCB), Ekam Dhaliwal, explains how the programme is the perfect mix of boxing training and learning.

“The DiSE course is an excellent combination of education mixed with helping me in my aspirations in sport and boxing.

“Throughout the programme, we have learned about the roles and responsibilities the athlete has and how we can perform to our best and improve.

“Through classroom lessons, we explore topics such as strength and conditioning alongside nutrition, talking about how impactful and necessary they are to the boxer.

“In the boxing sessions, we always think critically and develop technically and tactically.

“I fully recommend this course fully to any aspiring boxer, as this course gives the full experience on how to become a better athlete whilst also gaining qualifications.”

Ekam has come through the ranks of Capitol ABC in the northern suburbs of Coventry in the West Midlands.

The 18-year-old won an England Boxing National Development Championships title at Junior level in 2018, beating Conrad Grant of Whitley in the under 50kg Class B final.
