A team of 16 has been named by England for the EUBC Youth European Championships 2022, to be staged in Sofia Bulgaria from 10th to 22nd April.

The team of nine boys and seven girls, plus three reserves, was agreed by selectors after a Selection Camp was held in Tamworth over the weekend (19th and 20th February).

Because of Covid-19, it will be a first England team to compete at a major championship since the EUBC Schools European Championships 2019, which was also in Sofia.

“It’s fantastic to be back preparing for a big tournament like this after so long away and we’re excited to work with this squad and see what we can achieve,” said Interim Talent Pathway Manager, Andrea Rankine.

“There is some really strong talent emerging, but we have to temper our expectations a little simply because while our boxers have had periods of inactivity, some other countries have continued to train throughout.

“That said, we have picked the squad based on those who we think have a chance of winning a medal and we believe they can acquit themselves well out in Bulgaria.”
