Windmill ABC are staging 1,000 rounds of boxing this weekend to raise to build a mosque and community hub for a village in Sierra Leone, Africa.

The project has a fundraising target of £7,000 for the event, which takes place at the club’s Smethwick base in the West Midlands.

A significant dent has already been made in the target with the auctioning off a UFC Sons of Africa display featuring three signed gloves from the continent’s best fighters.

With the boxing rounds events still to come – where souvenir event t-shirts will be sold to add to the pot – the hope is the final figure will be much higher.

Activities at the gym will include shadow boxing, skipping and punch bags, with all welcome.

Drop-in sessions will be held between 10am and 3pm and against from 6.30pm until late, with a ladies-only session between 3.30m and 5pm.

“It would be great if anyone can support, even a penny or a pound will go a long way,” said the club’s Head Coach Mohammad Abdullah.
