Crewkerne Boxing Club brings their Boxing Family Together
November 11, 2025 | by Chris Boyd
Crewkerne Boxing Club recently hosted a fantastic club-wide evening that brought together members from all corners of their boxing community – from juniors and seniors to carded boxers, Little Thumpers, and the ladies’ session.
The special event, held in late October, gave members who usually train at different times throughout the week the chance to come together under one roof for an evening of learning, sharing and connection.
The event featured a mix of sparring displays, judging activities, and coaching discussions designed to strengthen bonds across the club.
Experienced carded boxers and senior members played a key role by holding pads, sharing advice, and supporting the younger boxers – creating a strong sense of unity and teamwork that embodies Crewkerne’s values.
To add a competitive and educational twist, the club organised several showcase spars where members were invited to judge each bout themselves. After each round, Western Counties Secretary and England Boxing’s Lead Officials Educator, Mike Hemming, provided expert feedback – announcing the winners and explaining the reasoning behind each decision.
Larry Mills, founder of Crewkerne Boxing Club, heralded the significance of the opportunity: “The insight into rules and scoring criteria gave our participants, of all ages, a deeper understanding of how bouts are judged at competition level, turning the evening into an invaluable learning experience.
“We at Crewkerne would like to express our gratitude to Mike, who made a three-hour round trip to attend. His ongoing dedication to supporting clubs across the Western Counties region continues to make a huge impact at the grassroots level.
“The evening proved to be a resounding success, full of learning, laughter and camaraderie – perfectly highlighting that boxing is as much about community, respect and teamwork as it is about what happens inside the ring.”
