Burntwood Platinum Boxing are looking forward to a rosy future after establishing themselves as an England Boxing-affiliated club in June.

It was set up with the assistance of a CSRT grant for £1,000, which help buy equipment and secure background support on governance and club management.

Since then, the club has acquired a permanent home, with the new gym in a sports hall that will feature running machines, weights a further room locating a ring and then male and female changing rooms.

It has been made possible with the backing of Support Staffordshire who have also pledged help with exploring potential funding opportunities and educational courses that will grow the club and its volunteers.

Head Coach Steve Cadman, who is appreciative of advice from England Boxing’s Club Support Officer for the Midlands, Mick Maguire, is delighted with recent progress.

He said: “It is still early days as we are now in the process of setting the gym and still running the classes, but I believe this is a fantastic base for us to develop further as a club and more importantly aid in the boxers development that we know have.

“We started the ABC just over 12 months ago with five carded boxers and now with 15 carded and a further six in the pipeline, it shows the attraction within our community.

“In addition to the valued help from England boxing,  Tamworth ABC’s Alan Keast was a big inspiration in setting up the club.

“He persuaded me to register as an England Boxing club which I was reluctant to do at first because I believed it was too difficult, but with his guidance I was able to do so and still, to this day, he assists whenever there is a requirement.”

The club plan to have an official opening to their new gym in the early part of the New Year.
