It was a mixed day for the Home Nations boxers at the EUBC European Under-22 Championships 2022, where Wales’ Croft brothers Ioan and Garan starred.

Both men progressed to Wednesday’s finals where they will go for gold.

Under 67kg boxer Ioan was a unanimous decision winner over Italy’s Giacomo Michaeli before Garan followed up with a 4-1 split decision win over Croatia’s Noa Jezek at Under 71kg.

But England’s semi-final duo were not so happy at the end of their bouts, despite excellent performances.

Under 54kg contender Olivia Holmes, of Rotunda, lost 4-0 to Niamh Faye of Ireland, while Sameenah Toussaint, of New Kings, lost on an agonising 3-2 split to Italy’s Biancamaria Tessari at Under 57kg.

There was also disappointment for Scotland’s Sam Hickey at Under 75kg as he went down to a 4-1 split decision defeat to Croatia’s Gabrijel Veocic.

All three losing semi-finalists will, however, go home with bronze medals.
