England Boxing would like to outline the routes onto the England Talent Pathway – and selection of the England squad – for Youth boxers during 2022.

It applies to boxers born in 2004 and 2005 and comes ahead of the England Boxing National Youth Championships 2021, held from 11th to 13th February in Barnsley, and the EUBC Youth European Championships 2021, which follow in April.

Routes onto the England Talent Pathway in 2022

Becoming a champion at the England Boxing National Youth Championships 2022 (Open category only)

Following the national championships, a meeting will be held to discuss which phase of the England Talent Pathway boxers will be placed into, to aid their development. All champions will receive written confirmation of their place on the pathway and the phase the coaches have placed them in.

Scouting at the England Boxing National Youth Championships 2022 (Open category only)

England coaches will be in attendance at these Championships from the semi-finals stages onwards.

Each boxer will be RAGG rated and assessed for their suitability for the England Talent Pathway. Successful boxers will be notified in writing, stating which phase coaches have placed them into.

Open Talent Day (OTD)

An OTD will be held at Tamworth Boxing Club on Saturday 26 February. All boxers that apply online to attend, and who meet the set criteria, will be invited to the camp in Tamworth to be assessed via RAGG rating by the England coaches.

All boxers will be written to following the assessment, with feedback. If boxers are successful, they will be informed of the pathway phase that coaches have placed them into.

EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships 2022

Eligibility for selection

Due to the Youth Europeans being held in early April, and the need for boxers to have a robust training and preparation plan, selection must take place by the end of February.

As a result, this year boxers will qualify for assessment via the England Boxing National Youth Championships 2022 (Open class only).

All finalists, including any sole entries, will be invited to a selection camp one week after the National Championships, on the weekend of the 19th and 20th February in Tamworth. Letters with full details will be handed to boxers at the Championships.

GB Youth and Junior Three Nations 2022

Qualification

As England are hosting this year’s tournament in June, we are permitted to enter two boxers at each international weight category.

This means that champions and finalists of the England Boxing National Youth Championships 2022 will qualify to represent England at the GB Three Nations for their age group.

If the qualified boxer is unavailable, injured or ill, the opportunity will be offered to the third place boxer, followed by the fourth and so on.
