Team England replicated their opening day feat by securing four victories from five bouts on day two of the EUBC Junior European Championships 2023 in Ploiesti, Romania.

Broadplain ABC’s Hollie Haskins got Team England off to a flying start with a comfortable victory over Xenia Scharapinski of Germany in their Under 50kg bout.

A confident and fast start to the contest saw Haskins build the foundations to secure a unanimous decision victory, with the Western Counties boxer’s attacking style catching the eye.

Next into the mix on Day Two was MohammadManny’ Safari, as he competed against Luka Chkhikvadze of Georgia in an Under 50kg bout.

Southpaw Manny dished out a masterclass of how to hit and not get hit, as he picked his shots superbly against a struggling Georgian on his way to securing a unanimous decision.

Another southpaw in Paul Coyle continued Team England’s emphatic momentum in session two, as he picked apart his Greek opponent Angelos Kalamaris in an Under 60kg contest.

The St Mary’s boxer exuded confidence, utilising his southpaw skills to good effect against a taller opponent as he cruised to a clear unanimous points victory.

Tobias Taylor was next in action for England, in an Under 80kg bout against German Ramin Popal.

The New Saints boxer had the misfortune of drawing a very capable and determined puncher but rallied to battle hard before falling to a unanimous points defeat.

Last up in bout 16 of the day was Legions’ Gym’s Leo Atang as he went head-to-head with Zurab Oboladze of Georgia.

The Over 80kg got off to an enthralling start, with Atang wasting no time at all to force a standing eight count in the first round.

The English boxer oozed class as he again forced a count in the second round, leaving the referee with no choice but to stop the contest in favour of the Yorkshireman.
