Billingham Boxing Academy has been named as a finalist in the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s Community Sport and Recreation Awards 2022.

The North-East club has been shortlisted in the Community Club of the Year category alongside Let’s Do More CIC (basketball) and Ride Ahead Together (cycling).

Billingham’s place in the final three was secured thanks to being what the judging panel described as a ‘inclusive boxing club offering an array of innovative programmes’.

Those have included the recent setting up of Knockout Depression, which gives members the chance to learn about mental health, Golden Gloves sessions for over 40s and over 50s and the inclusive All Stars sessions aimed at children with special educational needs and disabilities, complex needs, additional needs or anyone those who need extra time and support.

The club will find out if they win at the Community Sport and Recreation Awards 2022 awards ceremony which will be held in Coventry on Thursday 24th March 2022.

The organisation’s President, HRH The Earl of Wessex, will be on hand to present the award winners with their trophies.
