The Tyne, Tees and Wear region has appointed Paul Bainbridge as its new medical registrar.

He replaces Laura Sargeant, who had previously combined the role with her ongoing position as TTW Club Support Officer.

Bainbridge takes up the position as an active coach and official, being affiliated with County Durham’s Brandon Boxing Club.

His interest in boxing started through his daughter, Megan, a European Junior Championships silver medallist in 2018.

“I started out as a Level 1 coach with Brandon and within a year of that I decided to do the officials course,” said Bainbridge. “I’m now a Grade A judge and timekeeper, a Grade B supervisor and I’ve just recently passed as a Grade C referee.

“I’ve also been on the Tyne, Tees and Wear Executive Committee for the last six years, taking on the role of Appointments Secretary. Doing this role has been challenging, to try and make sure all club shows are covered with officials, but one I loved doing.

“During that time I’ve built up some strong friendships with the clubs throughout the region.

“I hope I can fill the big shoes of our previous registrar Laura Sargeant by helping and offering advice to clubs around the TTW region. I’m really looking forward to this new challenge and can’t wait to get started.”

England Boxing Membership Services Manager, Lynette Mayo, said: “We would like to thank Laura for the job she has done in helping the TTW region become stronger and stronger, with ever-more clubs coming on board.

“Paul is already a well-known figure on the boxing circuit and I’m sure the contacts he has will serve him well during this new role, for which we wish him all the best.”

Clubs in the region wishing to contact Paul can do so by emailing pbambos746@gmail.com or calling 07596 341074.
