Kronik Warrior Boxing UK, led by Luiz Faye, has been nominated for a National Diversity Award for the community which it has built throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The National Diversity Awards celebrate the excellent achievements of grassroots communities that tackle issues in today’s society, giving them recognition for their dedication and hard work.

Kronik Warrior is a non-for-profit organisation which has provided weekly online adaptive boxing classes for wheelchair users and people who suffer from chronic pain throughout the pandemic.

Head coach Luizand is a qualified England Boxing coach who specialises in adaptive boxing.

Adaptive boxing can be enjoyed at a variety of levels and adapted to suit individual abilities and fitness levels as all the exercises are all done from a seated position.

With gyms being closed during the Pandemic, classes have helped people physically through increasing their fitness, strength, hand-eye coordination, memory, and core stability.

The online sessions have also been a powerful tool during the pandemic in improving people’s mental health, confidence, and self-esteem.

Luiz said: “I believe passionately that adaptive boxing is an incredible craft which can be enjoyed by all. This sport can significantly improve quality of life through functional, transferable skills that can be used on a day-to-day basis.”

“The classes are so much more than boxing. We are creating a community

“With the help and support of our members we have been able to provide a safe space for people with disabilities to exercise and speak openly about the challenges they faced, share coping mechanisms and build friendships.”

Alicia Winbolt, England Boxing’s Yorkshire Club Support Officer added: “The work that Luiz has done throughout the pandemic to support wheelchair users and those with chronic pain to keep active and to feel part of a community is incredible. She has really made a positive difference to many people’s lives.”

Luiz Faye also delivers in-person adaptive boxing classes and workshops out of Fearon’s Gym in Derby and is soon to start new classes in Doncaster at St Peter’s Boxing Club / Stefy Bull Fitness and Circuit Centre.
