Tribute to David Pocknell

England Boxing is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of David Pocknell, an influential and highly respected figure within the boxing community, as well as a former England boxer and coach.
David dedicated many years to coaching across all levels of the sport, from grassroots boxing through to GB Boxing’s World Class Performance Programme. During his distinguished coaching career, he worked with a number of elite athletes, including Olympic and professional boxer James DeGale, as well as super heavyweight David Price.
As a boxer, David proudly represented England, and later assisted in coach education sessions too, supporting the delivery of Level 2 coaching courses and contributing to the development of coaches.
His involvement in boxing spanned decades, and he was widely admired for his exceptional knowledge, clarity of thought, and his ability to bring out the very best in both athletes and fellow coaches. Beyond his technical expertise, David was known for his warmth, humour, and infectious personality. He had a rare ability to light up a room and make those around him feel welcome.
David’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched within the sport and among his loved ones.
