England Boxing Statement: Decisive Action in the East Midlands Region
June 4, 2025 | by Chris Boyd
England Boxing has taken the decision to appoint an Interim Regional Management Board for the East Midlands region, following serious and ongoing concerns about governance, non-compliance and member conduct in the lead-up to the scheduled East Midlands AGM on 8th June 2025.
In recent months, the East Midlands region has experienced a high volume of complaints, with numerous emails, false allegations, and defamatory claims made against individuals involved in the regional committee. This has created an increasingly toxic environment, making it impossible to hold a fair and orderly AGM and to appoint a properly functioning committee.
Despite earlier efforts to support the regional committee, beginning in October 2024, including formal non-compliance proceedings in January 2025, England Boxing’s guidance and policies have not resolved the underlying issues. These ongoing disputes are now significantly disrupting the ability of England Boxing to operate effectively and to support clubs and members in the region.
Therefore, acting in accordance with its powers under the Regional Associations Policy, England Boxing is invoking SD.3.n, SE.1, and SE.2 to protect the integrity of governance and ensure continued support for the boxing community in the East Midlands.
The following measures will take immediate effect:
- The adoption of the updated Regional Constitution for the East Midlands.
- The appointment by England Boxing of an Interim Regional Management Board, consisting of six members, as provided for under clause S5.4 of the updated constitution.
This Interim Board will be responsible for addressing the governance failures in the region and ensuring the proper application of England Boxing policy. It will also ensure that clubs, members, and competitions are supported, and that boxing continues to take place safely and in a structured, inclusive manner.
The scheduled AGM on 08 June 2025 may still go ahead, but the agenda item covering elections and appointments will be removed. The Interim Board will take on the responsibilities of the regional committee until a valid and fair AGM can be held at a later date.
This decision is subject to the approval of the England Boxing Board at its meeting in July 2025. At that meeting, the Board will also consider whether additional measures are necessary to support regional stability and restore effective governance.
Finally, England Boxing reminds all members that this action does not preclude future disciplinary proceedings against individuals whose behaviour may breach the Disciplinary Code, either in the lead-up to the AGM or in response to this statement.
This necessary step demonstrates England Boxing’s commitment to good governance, fair play, and the long-term health of boxing in the East Midlands. Our priority remains the support of grassroots clubs and members, and ensuring the sport continues to unite and inspire communities across the country
