England Boxing Completes Coaching People With Parkinson’s Course
July 16, 2026 | by Nabillah Akhtar
Following the successful delivery of our final regional course, England Boxing has now completed the nationwide rollout of the Coaching People with Parkinson’s course, delivered in partnership with Parkinson’s UK.
Over the course of the programme, more than 130 coaches from every England Boxing region have successfully completed the course, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to deliver safe, inclusive and effective boxing sessions for people living with Parkinson’s.
The initiative, supported by Parkinson’s UK and Richard Longthorp, has helped create a growing network of affiliated clubs committed to making boxing more accessible within their local communities. By providing coaches with specialist knowledge and practical guidance, the programme has laid strong foundations for more people living with Parkinson’s to experience the physical, mental and social benefits that boxing can offer.

England Boxing’s Parkinson’s Project Lead, Harrison Frew, reflected on the success of the programme: “Successfully delivering the Coaching People with Parkinson’s course across every England Boxing region is a fantastic milestone and something everyone involved should be incredibly proud of.
“With the invaluable support of Parkinson’s UK and Richard Longthorp, we’ve been able to upskill more than 130 coaches who are now better equipped to provide inclusive boxing opportunities for people living with Parkinson’s in their communities.
“It has been a privilege to lead such an impactful initiative, and we’re excited to move into the next phase of the project. Working alongside Liverpool John Moores University, we’ll be conducting an impact report to better understand and evidence the difference these sessions are making to the lives of people living with Parkinson’s, as well as the positive impact on their families, carers and wider support networks.
“This is an important step in demonstrating the value boxing can have as part of supporting people with Parkinson’s, and we’re excited to continue building on the success of the programme.”
The completion of the regional rollout marks an important milestone for the project, but it is by no means the end of the journey. England Boxing remains committed to supporting affiliated clubs in developing Parkinson’s boxing provision and looks forward to sharing the findings of the upcoming impact report, helping to further strengthen the evidence base for boxing as an inclusive activity for people living with Parkinson’s.
