The England Boxing Cost of Living Crisis Fund – supported by Revolut, the UK’s fastest-growing fintech company – is supporting 28 clubs to the tune of £25,000. Brooklands Amateur Boxing Club, in the Midlands region, is one of the clubs to benefit from the funding.

Brooklands ABC is located in Dudley, just north of Birmingham, and is at the heart of several deprived areas.

The club has spent the last 10 years working tirelessly to utilise the power and unity of boxing to bring communities, schools, and even rival gangs, together as one.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, and together with the general cost of living increases, Brooklands has found that participant numbers have dropped, yet their bills have continued to rise.

This combination has become perilous for the club which, as a not-for-profit organisation, relies on subs as its primary source of income.

As a result, Brooklands are two months behind on rent and have been forced into a payment plan for electricity bills.

Through the grant provided by England Boxing and Revolut, instead of fighting for survival, the club can concentrate on building upon their ten years of hard work.

Claire McDermott, Club Secretary at Brooklands ABC, echoed that sentiment, saying, “Without the help of this grant, I believe the gym would have had to close and the last ten years would have all been forgotten.”
