Supporting Members During Ramadan: New Policy
February 13, 2026 | by Nabillah Akhtar
With Ramadan fast approaching, England Boxing is pleased to introduce a new policy to support members who may require reasonable adjustments during this important time.
As the National Governing Body for Boxing, we are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible sport for everyone in our community. This new policy provides clear guidance to support boxers, coaches, officials, doctors, volunteers, staff, board members and boxing families who observe Ramadan. It also outlines fair procedures for adjustments at club shows and championships, while maintaining safety, welfare and competitive integrity.
Members who feel they may need reasonable adjustments are asked to submit a request at least five working days before a club show, or by the Monday immediately after qualifying for the next round of a championship. Requests should outline any specific needs, such as bout session preference or access to a prayer space.
This policy is intended as guidance. The responsibility to safeguard boxers under the age of 18 remains with parents/carers and coaches, while boxers aged 18 and over are responsible for their own decision-making.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Lunar Calendar and is a holy time for Muslims around the world. During this period, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, meaning no food or water is consumed during daylight hours. The month encourages discipline, patience and empathy, while helping individuals build a closer connection to God. Ramadan lasts for 29 or 30 days and takes place at a different time each year.
We are proud to support members who observe Ramadan and remain committed to ensuring that everyone can continue to participate in the sport in a way that feels safe, respected and inclusive.
Our annual Iftar will also be taking place on 1st March to bring all members of the boxing community together and mark the occasion, with an expression of interest form to be shared soon for those who would like to attend.
