Respect for Officials: A Reminder to All England Boxing Members
May 15, 2025 | by Nabillah Akhtar
England Boxing has seen a rise of abuse directed at officials, both at events and on social media.
Officials are essential to the sport of boxing, referees, judges, and supervisors are all required to run events safely and in accordance with EB and international rules.
England Boxing remind all members that as part of their membership they are bound to the EB Code of Conduct. The abuse of officials or fellow coaches is in direct breach of the code of conduct. Coaches who have been proven to have abused officials at events, may be subject to disciplinary proceeding. This also applies to the abuse of coaches on social media platforms.
A reminder, all individuals involved in boxing in England will, always:
- Respect the spirit of fair play in boxing. This is more than competing within the rules. It also incorporates the concepts of friendship, respect for others and always participating with the right spirit.
- Respect for the rights, dignity and worth of others.
- Promote the reputation of the sport and take all possible steps to prevent it from being brought into disrepute.
- Protect themselves and others involved in the sport from verbal or physical abuse and threatening or intimidating behaviour.
- Never use inappropriate language or gestures.
