New Female Coach Development Programme launched

March 8, 2021 | by Matt Halfpenny

Today is International Women’s Day, and, to coincide with this, England Boxing is proud to announce the launch of its new Female Coach Development Programme.

The project is part of a wider drive to develop women and girls in boxing called the RAIR Project… RAIR = Recover-Aspire, Inspire, Retain.

The purpose is to raise aspirations, inspire female boxers, coaches, officials and to retain them in the sport which, in turn, will help to increase visibility and provide positive role models for the generations to come.

The programme will be aimed at engaging all women and girls across the sport of boxing, with ongoing development opportunities and support that constantly evolves and include additional initiatives.

What the Female Coach Development Programme (FCDP) entails

The 12-month project will help to support 10 female coaches (who must have passed their England Boxing Level 1 coaching course as a minimum) in their coaching development.

Initial virtual sessions will be followed up by face-to-face group interaction once restrictions allow.

An Individual Development Plan will form the conversations and directions of what each coach requires as their key areas for development.

A mentor will be assigned to offer support and guidance along the way for each of the coaches who are enrolled on the programme.

Any practical elements will be delivered via one of two residential/day sessions (tbc), plus invitations to shadow at England TDCs and attend the Women’s Aspire session.

There will be an individual review on completion of the 12 months to explore further areas for each coach to take ownership and continue their development beyond the programme.
