As the new season approaches, England Boxing would like to inform all members that we will no longer be printing coaches’ lanyards. Officials’ and Doctors’ lanyards will continue to be issued as normal.

Since the launch of the Locker last year, all licensed coaches have been issued with a unique purple QR Code (pictured below) that can be stored and checked via their smartphones.

The QR Code provides an accurate and 100% up-to-date record of a coach’s license, qualifications, and DBS clearance, unlike physical lanyards, which will go out of date when one of these expires.

From June onwards, all coaches will be required to present their purple QR Code to the Supervisors at shows when cornering boxers. Failure to present a QR Code will result in coaches being unable to corner boxers or gain access to coaching-restricted areas.

The removal of physical lanyards will help prevent individuals from attempting to create false IDs and further enhance the safety of young boxers. It will also protect the credibility and status of a coaching license for those members who have worked hard to become licensed coaches.

How do I receive my purple QR code/coaching license?

Video guidance on how to apply for a coaching license is available HERE. Before applying for a coaching license, you will need to ensure that your DBS, First Aid certification, coaching qualification and safeguarding certification are all up to date on The Locker. Guidance on how to upload these certifications is available HERE.

If your QR code is showing as ‘Action Required’, you must bring your outstanding qualification(s) up to date as, during this time, you will not be covered by England Boxing insurance or permitted to act as a coach in any capacity.

I am an Event Organiser. What do I need to do at a show to check that coaches are licensed to corner?

As the event organiser of a club show, responsibility for the safeguarding of members and spectators lies with you. It is important to ensure that you have appropriate accreditation checks in place to restrict access to changing rooms, warm-up areas and the field of play to suitably licensed members only.

You can do this in a variety of ways, including issuing coaching wristbands, ID passes, or tickets to the supervisor or assistant to issue to coaches during accreditation. Whichever method you choose to use, please ensure that you inform the Supervisor, officials and any security so they are aware of the accreditation being issued to coaches and therefore identify coaches in restricted areas and corners.

At accreditation, use the camera on your smartphone to scan a coach’s purple QR Code. This license gives the most up-to-date information and will show ‘Action Required’ if coaches are lapsed on any or all of their: – Coaching Qualification, First Aid, Safeguarding or DBS.

If a QR code is showing as ‘Action Required’, you should not permit accreditation or access for that individual to any restricted coaching areas, as, during this time, they will not be covered by England Boxing insurance or licensed to coach.

If a QR code is showing as ‘Current’ after scanning, you can issue access to that coach.

Following an event, should you have any concerns about a particular individual, coach or club, please notify safeguarding@englandboxing.org

I am a Supervisor / Official / Event Welfare Officer. What do I need to do at a show to check that coaches are licensed to corner?

Check with the event organiser which method of accreditation is being awarded to coaches and familiarise yourself with it in advance of the show. You must check the accreditation of any coach present at a show and can request to view a coach’ purple QR Code at any time.

If, after scanning, a coach’s QR code is showing as ‘Action Required’, you should not permit access for that individual to any restricted coaching areas, as during this time, they will not be covered by England Boxing insurance or licensed to coach.

If a QR code is showing as ‘Current’ after scanning, you can issue access to that coach.
