13 Senior England Performance boxers entered their 2025-2026 programme with a warm-weather training camp in Tenerife last month.

Casa Kinsella, a training facility located in the south of Spain’s largest Canary Island, played host to England Performance’s latest Senior contingent. It was here that the squad laid out their plans for the season ahead, building ‘Individual Development Plans’ (IDPs) and solidifying team bonds through exercises and tasks.

The IDPs created were thorough and personalised, assisted by England Performance’s medicine staff who joined the squad for the one-week trip, with Abbie Williams (Sports Psychologist), Ryan Kimber (Physiotherapist), Jordan Boriel (Strength & Conditioning) and Esme Tuttiett (Nutritionist) all present.

Amanda Coulson led a coaching team comprised of Amanda Groarke, Carl Ellis and Dean Sugden and was delighted with the outcome of the camp: “The camp took place at the beginning of the 2025-2026 Senior Programme this year and therefore was situated within our ‘general preparation phase’. This allowed us lots of scope to deliver much more than just the boxing side of the sport.

“The theme objective for the camp was going ‘back to basics’, which involved implementing the ‘5 Pillars’ boxer framework and maximising the time our boxers have their opponent in front of them to practice development areas.

“Building a team is very important to our programme, so we designed team tasks and team cooking activities to help cement a team bond.

“Each boxer was designated a timeslot to discuss plans moving forward with me and the sports psychologist, Abbie. These talks centred on ‘IDPs’ and how best we can support the boxer to unlock their potential.

“In those meetings, each boxer was presented with an individual running plan aimed at specific pacing to produce maximum gains. This meant the facilities’ running track and beachfront came in handy for boxers aiming to hit their target.

“All in all, it was a very successful week, and I’m delighted with the outcome of the camp. We can’t wait to get back to Sheffield to begin building on the foundations we laid in Tenerife.
