England’s Youth Performance squad delivered a series of standout performances at the 30th edition of the Brandenburg Cup, held in Frankfurt, Germany, securing 10 medals – including three golds – and collecting multiple tournament accolades in the process.

The prestigious international event, which caters to Under 19 boxers, culminated with Saturday’s (2nd August) Finals Day, and featured elite competition from across the globe — including teams from the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

England’s medal haul included three gold, five silver, and two bronze medals, as well as top individual honours for two of the squad’s young talents.

Mohammad Safari (The Ring) was named Best Male Boxer of the Tournament and also received the Best Male Bout Award for his thrilling Under 55kg final, where he overcame Germany’s Mohamed Al Manouchi with a composed 4-1 split decision victory.

Meanwhile, World Champion Ruby White (Sturminster Newton) continued her outstanding form by claiming gold in the Female Under 51kg category and being awarded Best Female Boxer of the Tournament.

The trio of gold medal winners was completed by fellow World Champion Caitlyn Wise (Worcester City), who impressed in the Female Under 57kg class.

The England coaching team was led by Phil Knight, supported by Naadrah Hafeez, Stephen Hume, and Nicki Wiley. Simon Mullan, fresh from being named Male Official of the Year at the England Boxing Annual Awards 2025, also travelled with the squad to serve as England’s R&J official.

Speaking after the final day of competition, Phil Knight reflected on a remarkable week: “Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it.

“I had the honour of leading the Youth team at the 30th Brandenburg Cup in Germany — and what a performance they delivered. 10 medals: 3 Gold, 5 Silver, 2 Bronze. Best Male of the Tournament, Best Female of the Tournament, and Best Male Final.

“Every boxer gave everything, and every coach stood tall. Huge thanks to our hosts in Germany for looking after us so well.

“This was more than a competition — it was a statement. The future of Youth boxing is bright.”

Lead National Coach Amanda Coulson remarked on the elite-level of competition on offer in Germany: “The experience our team gained at this event was invaluable — especially with nations competing from beyond Europe, including the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

“Opportunities like this usually only come at a World Championships level. It’s a great sign of progress and has made the team even more motivated heading into the Youth Europeans later this year.”
