World Mental Health Day 2020 – Together we can knock out stigma

England Boxing and the boxing community is today (10th October) supporting World Mental Health Day 2020.

The slogan that is uniting people in boxing across the country is ‘Today is World Mental Health Day and together we can knock out stigma’, with the likes of Carl Frampton, Aspire ABC, Frazer Clarke, Isaac Chamberlain, Glynn Rhodes MBE, Charlie Briant, Isaac Dogboe, John Hughes, Jane Couch, Kieron Conway, Johnny Nelson, Bishop Auckland ABC, Tom Stalker, Shannon Courtney, Tommy Frank and many more giving their backing by recording messages for England Boxing’s video, below.

It aims to get people to open up about their feelings and any problems or anxieties they many have, rather than bottling them up.

The fantastic support through the videos highlights the strength of the backing for the campaign and its important message.

We all have our mental health to consider and look after – and it’s just as important as our physical health.

World Mental Health Day 2020 is the most important one yet as this year has been a tough one for us all.

The different experiences we have encountered during lockdown and the Coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on our mental health.

According to MIND’s research with over 16,000 people, more than half of adults (60%) and over two thirds of young people (68%) said their mental health got worse during lockdown.

The charity knows that many have developed new mental health problems as a result of the pandemic and, for some, existing mental health problems have gotten worse.

It has also recently started to run mental health awareness sessions for young boxers on the England Talent Pathway in partnership with Mental Health UK.
