England Boxing is celebrating after landing two amazing accolades at last night’s (5 December) UK Coaching Awards which took place at the Queen’s Hotel in Leeds.

The organisation was acknowledged for contributing to transforming lives by securing the ‘Inclusive Coaching’ award for its Community Boxing Apprenticeship Programme, while apprentice, Gabrielle Reid, was honoured as the ‘Young Coach of the Year’.

The Apprenticeship Programme was created in partnership with Coach Core and first began in 2022. The initial cohort consisted of ten youngsters and its sole aim was to upskill them during fifteen months. Now in its second year, a further three roles have been added and is going from strength to strength.

It is through this initiative that Gabrielle Reid first joined the National Governing Body and is now a determined boxing coach eager to make the sport inclusive for all.

Upon receiving her award, she said: “It’s great! To be honest, I can’t believe that I won it out of all the other great coaches who were there but here we are and I’m grateful.

Coaching means everything to me, it’s literally what I do every day and even if it wasn’t my job – I would still do it because it’s so rewarding.

“You don’t realise that the people you are coaching, they make just as much of an impact on your life as you do theirs.”

Elsewhere, Head of Operations, Avoen Perryman, reflected on the success of the project, “I am beyond speechless and so grateful for this award.

It will be shared by all of us at England Boxing, the clubs and communities that our fabulous apprentices have reached, not forgetting our partners at Sport England, Coach Core and Lifetime Training – without whom, none of this would have been possible.

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for our apprentices and those who we will be meeting in the years ahead.”
