Darren Barker Begins Fundraising Challenge
August 21, 2026 | by Nabillah Akhtar
Darren Barker has embarked on his ‘Longest Round’ fundraising challenge which is in memory of the late boxing legend, Ricky Hatton.
Barker will be away for 3.5 weeks completing a mixture of cycling and swimming across Edinburgh through to Gibrilatar and eventually ending his journey in Morcocco.
The former IBF World Heavyweight Champion who also won European and Commonwealth titles, is doing this to raise money for suicide prevention charity, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) which Hatton was an ambassador of, before he passed away in 2025.

Speaking after his first day on the challenge, Barker said: “Well Scotland didn’t disappoint, it absolutely hammered down. I am drenched. Nice one Scotland, love you!
“We have had every season you could imagine today. We’ve had rain, wind, sleet, hail, sun but we made it to England.”
He added: “Day one in the bank, one on the board. Buzzing, feeling good. Honestly I feel really good. It will get harder, I know it will but that’s one day done.”
