Young boxers affiliated to England Boxing clubs across the country are to benefit from a unique award – courtesy of the Maverick Stars Trust.

24 boxers who each reached the finals of the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs Championships 2019 – of which Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan and Tyson Fury are all former winners – will receive the 2020 Boxing Development Award.

As a result, each has been invited to a Boxing Masterclass led by England Boxing’s Performance Coach Mick Driscoll this weekend (Saturday 8th February) at the GB Boxing Gym, English Institute of Sport, Sheffield.

Other benefits from the award include club subs being paid for a year, a Maverick Stars training top and boxing gloves, nutritional advice, a team building event and a £50 JD sports voucher.

The boxers chosen for the award are: Alfie Leahy (Rourkey’s), Patrick Coleman (Rourkey’s), Kieran Ray (Poseidon), Kelsey Oakley (Priory Park), Ellis Grant (Transport), Jasmine Morris (Northampton), Macy Gallone (Spennymoor, pictured below, in red), Levi Barnes (Shapstyle), Reece Readshaw (Phil Thomas), Shay Johnston (Orme ABC), Tino Bellott (Dale Youth, pictured above, in red), Demi Uscroft (Tommy Coyle), Cameron McKay (White Hart Lane), Tareq Ahmed (Lansbury), Callum Makin (Kirkdale), Kieran McDaid (Jimmy Egan’s), Teagn Stott (Sheffield Boxing Centre), Alby Hill (Chadwell St Mary), Hamza Uddin (Fearless Boxing Academy), James Fernley (West Ham), Aloys Youmbi (Double Jab), Jacob Sharman (Marden), Isaac Okoh (Chadwell St Mary), Oladimeji Shittu (Five Star).

“I came up with this idea as I wanted to open up a national award for young people,” said Founder and Trustee Charlotte Gilley. “We narrowed it down from all the finalists to these 24 boxers, who I felt would benefit the most from the award.”

Maverick Stars Trust are always looking for ways to help individuals and clubs who may need additional support.
