England Boxing Judge/Timekeeper Course – Grade C

To begin your journey, you will need to create a profile on The Locker  and locate an England Boxing Judge/TK Grade C course in your region. You must complete the training course and a written exam, which will be presented at the end of the course. This paper is set and marked by England Boxing.

The cost of the course is £30

Practical Assessment

If successful, you will be invited to participate in a practical assessment (probationary bouts). This involves ringside judging at local shows and events. Your scores won’t be used to determine the outcome of the bout but will be compared to those of the other judges. The Regional Educator will assess your performance and notify England Boxing once the required standard is achieved.

Officials Certification and Licence

Your certification will be uploaded to your Locker profile on notification from the Regional Educator. Once you have received your certificate, you will  be able to obtain your officials license and QR code through your Locker profile.

To obtain your licence to officiate you will need a Tier 3 membership and you can affiliate with your local club or England Boxing Officials.

Eligible to Judge Club Shows

After receiving your officials licence and completing the registration process, you will be eligible to be appointed by the regional appointments secretary to judge at club shows. All bouts you officiate will be recorded on the Locker by the Supervisor. You will also be expected to keep a record of these in your Officials R&J Log Book

Judging Grades

England Boxing is committed to the development of high-quality officials through a structured upgrade pathway, aligned with performance, experience, and values. This pathway is managed regionally for upgrades to B Grade, and nationally by the Technical Rules Sub-Committee for progression to Major Panel and international opportunities.

To become a Grade C, locate the appropriate course on the Locker or contact England Boxing at support@englandboxing.zendesk.com, and we will make the Regional Educator aware of your interest.

To become a Grade B judge, you require a minimum of 12 months of experience as a Grade C, and 400 judged bouts, which can be evidenced on the Locker. These must include assessments at regional and national events

All upgrade requests must be submitted with verified bout logs and assessment records. Officials should be active across a minimum of two competitive seasons.

To become a Grade A judge, you need to have been a Grade B judge for a minimum of 12 months and judged 400 bouts; 50% must be at the Regional Level, and receive the Officials Educator recommendation.

This structured approach ensures a clear development pathway for officials, supports quality and consistency in officiating, and aligns with England Boxing’s commitment to integrity, inclusivity, and excellence across all levels of the sport.

To maintain the highest standards of officiating, officials may be subject to refresher training, re-examination, or de-grading under the following circumstances:

Refresher or Re-Examination May Be Required If:

  • An official has not been active for 18 consecutive months or more
  • Performance concerns are raised by senior officials, educators, or assessors
  • A breach of England Boxing policies, values, or codes of conduct is identified

In such cases, the official may be asked to attend a refresher session, complete a reassessment at their current grade, or repeat the relevant course content.

Officials may be stood down temporarily or de-graded permanently by the Regional Secretary or Technical Rules Director in the following circumstances:

  • Persistent failure to meet expected officiating standards
  • Evidence of misconduct, safeguarding concerns, or behaviour bringing the sport into disrepute
  • Failure to engage with required training, CPD, or policy updates
  • Failure to comply with reasonable requests to officiate or attend mandatory events without valid reason

All de-grading decisions must be recorded in writing and submitted to the Technical Rules Sub-Committee for formal logging.
