Frank Bagley, from Legion Boxing Club, has been awarded the Active Award at the BBC Radio Newcastle Awards, held at Newcastle Racecourse on 15th September.
For many years, Bagley has dedicated his time to voluntarily coaching young people in deprived areas, inspiring countless youngsters to get involved in boxing and promoting discipline, fitness, and community spirit through the sport.
Tragedy struck just last month when a fire broke out at Redhouse Working Men’s Club, the site that was set to become the new home of Legion Boxing Club.
Despite the setback, Bagley has worked tirelessly to restore the venue, determined to reopen the doors and ensure the club continues to serve as a positive space for local youth.
Speaking on the accolade, he said: “I’m over the moon that the work I do in the community and my love for boxing have been recognised on the radio and TV.
It means a lot to let people know the club’s still going strong and that everyone’s welcome.
I’m in the middle of turning the old Redhouse Working Men’s Club into a big gym and community space for all ages, and I can’t wait to see it all come together.”
