DiSE has had many successes with their boxers graduating and moving on to the England talent Pathway and the GB World Class Programme, but, there have been other measures of significant success too.
Many of the boxing students have gone on to achieve academic success at university level.
Countless boxers have gone on to be sport scientists, physiotherapists and coaches amongst other professional pursuits.
Greater Brighton Metropolitan College’s DiSE student George Filkins recently received the news that he had been awarded a place at Brighton University to study Sports Coaching.
On the back of the news Filkins said:
“I felt extremely proud and excited as it is such a great achievement to study at this level especially through Sport. I look forward to being able to develop my coaching skills further which I learned through DiSE and help young people develop in sport. Especially boxing. I achieved my level one England Boxing badge through my time at the college and look forward to adding to my skill set.
“I find working with others to improve their performance really gratifying. It’s rewarding watching athletes develop and exceed their expectations.
“DiSE has played a huge part. The tutors and my coach Adam Haniver have given me guidance and the confidence to pursue my long term goal, of becoming a sports coach.
“What advice would I give young boxers? Listen to your tutors and coaches, they are always there to help you when you need them. With hard work and determination you can achieve anything you want to, academically and in the sport of boxing.”
