England Performance Confirm Senior Boxers for 2024-2025 Season

Building on the success of the inaugural Senior Performance Programme, England Boxing is delighted to announce the athletes selected for the 2024-2025 season.

Twelve boxers from a range of diverse backgrounds and regions across the country have been chosen after rigorous assessments in May.

Additionally, a Development Squad for this age group will also be introduced, offering opportunities for skill enhancement through various camps domestically.

Some members of the new senior team remain unchanged, with Osama Mohamed, Reece Readshaw and Freddie Pullen all making a return. Whilst others have simply progressed up the ranks such as Ella Thompstone.

The England Performance team will look to meet at least two times per month for residential camps, a figure which has doubled since last year and there is still further opportunity to be identified by England Coaches on the upcoming Senior Open Talent Day which takes place at the first training camp on 10th August 2024.

The overall aim of the programme has been to nurture talent holistically in order to reach their full potential both in and outside of the ring. It has had a clear focus on advancing boxers as individuals improving their character, resilience and determination alongside their sporting skills.

Paris 2024 Olympian, Chantelle Reid was a testament to this ethos last year by quickly advancing to the GB Boxing team and booking herself a place at the Olympics, “If I didn’t get onto the England Senior Programme, I wouldn’t have that international experience under my belt.

It really did open my eyes to what’s out there in terms of the competition in the Olympic weight division that I’m in (75kg). It was a massive stepping stone for me personally and was really beneficial.”

Newcomer, Kai Birch sets his sights on success, “It’s a indescribable feeling being picked, it just solidifies that all of the hard work and hard times have been worth it.

I’m so proud that I get to represent my country whilst doing what I love, I hope I can bring back home as many gold medals as possible!”

Elsewhere, it’s a dream come true for teammate Mary-Kate Smith: “I can’t believe that I’ve been selected for the team, it means so much to me – after all of the hard work and resilience it has taken along the way to make this possible

I can’t wait to represent England in the sport that I love to the best of my ability and progress with my dreams on the world stage.”
