DiSE London Boxers Shine on Memorable Liverpool Trip

A team of DiSE London boxers enjoyed an unforgettable weekend in Liverpool, combining top-class competition with a truly inspiring experience away from the ring.
Eight athletes from Spotlight London Gym made the journey north to take on a Derry Matthews Liverpool select team, proudly pulling on the DiSE London vest as a united squad for the very first time.
The trip marked a significant milestone for the programme, as DiSE London coach Mark Collings explained: “We’ve had a few DiSE boxers travel together for shows here and there, but this was the first time we’ve travelled as a proper team and worn a DiSE London vest.
“This is the first time some of the boxers have boxed outside of London, so it was a tremendous experience for all concerned and a great team bonding exercise.”
Before stepping through the ropes, the squad were given a boost of inspiration with a guided tour of Anfield, home of Liverpool FC, courtesy of Liverpool FC in the Community.
Collings added: “To have had a full guided tour around Anfield the day before was truly inspirational for the boxers. In the end the team won five out of their eight bouts, so a huge thanks goes out to Derry for hosting us on his incredible show, and also a big shout to Forbes at Liverpool FC in the Community who made sure all the boxers were given the full VIP tour. It was a trip to remember, that’s for sure.”
Among the standout performers was Katie Boyle (Limehouse BC), who was crowned Best Away Boxer on the show.
Reflecting on her experience, she said: “This was the first time I’d boxed out of London and I hadn’t really been out of London much in any shape or form, so to compete as well as I did and to go for a visit to Liverpool FC was an experience I’ll never forget. Hopefully there’ll be many more to come.”
The trip not only delivered success in the ring but also highlighted the value of opportunities like DiSE in developing young athletes both as boxers and individuals.
