The North West region is hosting its first all female boxing show providing athletes with an evening of dedicated competition.

The show will take place on the 25 February at St.Johns ABC, Chequers rd., Trafford. Manchester M21 9DY. It will be a daytime event starting at 12.30pm and is attracting female athletes from across the North.

An expected number of up to 24 athletes will compete across 6 weight categories and you can watch by buying tickets on the door at £10 for Adults and £5 for children.

The show was the brainchild of Ian Harrison, lead coach of The North West Women Warriors Squad. Ian is supported by a team of handpicked coaches including England Boxing director Liz Norris, who are all highly motivated in championing more opportunities for females in boxing from grass-roots recreational participation right through to elite competition.

Over the day there will be 14 bouts including many of the girls who have attended the squad session over the past four years.

Also, at the show will be 2017 Junior Development Champion and this year’s Junior Finalist Rebecca Unsworth (Wildcard ABC). The 2015 Class Senior Development Champion Nikki Arthur (Manx ABC) is coming across from the Isle of Man.

Nikki will be going up against 2017 Senior Development Champion Tracey Webber (Northside ABC) and all the proceeds from the show will be for taking a team to the Esker All Female Box cup in Dublin, Ireland in Oct.

Liz said: “A lot of female athletes are becoming frustrated at the lack of dedicated competitions for them. It’s a really positive landmark for the North West and we really believe that the show will grow and become a regular fixture in the sport’s calendar.

Ian commented “I’m excited to see what competition we have for the first show. We have some really strong boxers in the region and I think the show will be the ideal opportunity to showcase their talents.”
