
Level 1 Coaching Courses – England Boxing
The England Boxing Level 1 Assistant Coach is the starting point for your coaching journey in boxing.
If you are new to coaching boxing, have limited coaching knowledge or want to get more involved in your club, then this is the course for you.
The England Boxing Level 1 – Assistant Coach course is run over four days, usually two full weekends and candidates are assessed over the full four days.
This learning programme focuses on the basic skills and techniques of how-to coach using the IDEA principle and group coaching, whilst learning the practical and technical fundamentals of boxing: health and safety and basic boxing rules.
On successful completion of this course candidates will receive an England Boxing Level 1 Assistant Coach award which is valid for 3 years and will be equipped to work alongside an England Boxing Level 2 Full Coach within an England Boxing affiliated club.
An England Boxing Level 1 Assistant coach can corner a boxer in competition as the referee oversees the bout under the observation of the England boxing supervisor appointed as the official in charge.
An England Boxing Level 1 Assistant Coach cannot take sparring they can only assist when in the presence and under the supervision of an England Boxing Level 2 Full Coach.
What do you need before you can sign up?
- You must be at least 17 years of age. Please note coaches must be 18 or older to actively coach with England Boxing.
- Seek to obtain an enhanced DBS before taking the course.
- Be able to communicate effectively in English (listening, speaking, reading and writing.)
- Download: The Level 1 Coaching Handbook before attending.
Course details
- All courses run from 9am-5pm unless otherwise stated.
- You are required to wear sporting clothes, bring boxing gloves and any coaching pads, along with a packed lunch and water to keep you hydrated. A notebook and pen will also be useful.
Candidates are required to attend all four days of the course with no exceptions and no swapping of course locations.
The course covers:
- Group coaching with the IDEA principle.
- Basic health and safety.
- Weight making.
- Nutrition.
- Safeguarding and protecting children.
- England Boxing Rules.
How much does the course cost?
The course costs:
£176 for an England Boxing member
£250 for a non-member
- Payment: Must be made at the time of booking via debit or credit card.
- Confirmation: You will receive a payment confirmation email immediately after booking along with the pre course information.
When will I receive my license?
In addition to attending and passing an England Boxing Level 1 Assistant Coach course, all candidates will require having in place the following before receiving their coaching license.
- An in-date Tier 3 membership on The Locker. (valid for 12 months)
- Hold an enhanced DBS. (Valid for 3 years)
- England Boxing Safeguarding and Protecting Children certificate. (valid for 3 years)
- First Aid certification including AED training. (valid for 3 years)
- A *Coaching license MUST be formally applied for via The Locker using the ‘Licensing & Lanyards’ add-on page – accessible by registering and logging into your profile on The Locker (valid for 12 months)
- Committed to follow the England Boxing code of conduct and relevant policies.
*Completion of this course will qualify you to be a coach, but you will not be licensed or insured by England Boxing until the DBS, First Aid and Safeguarding certificates are completed and uploaded to The Locker.
An England Boxing Level 1 Assistant Coach qualification lasts for three years from the date of certification. If a Level 1 qualification expires there is no dispensation. An England Boxing Level 1 Online Refresher Course or an England Boxing Level 2 Full Coach course must be taken before the Level 1 qualification expires.
Anyone who fails a Level 1 course must sit the full course again as they are assessed over the full four days, it does not an individual assessment day.
