First Announcement to EB Members – East Midlands Region Consultation
April 24, 2026 | by Nabillah Akhtar
FAO EB Members,
As England Boxing clubs and individual members, we want to inform you that you are our number one priority in everything that we do, and we are proud to serve you and the best interests of the sport. We thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to amateur boxing.
For many years it has been well known that there have been deep-rooted political and personal issues between several core groups within the East Midlands Region. As an organisation, England Boxing has spent hundreds of thousands of pounds, staff & volunteer time, and a multitude of resources to try and gain stability within the region so that it can operate autonomously, democratically and constructively.
Unfortunately, these efforts have been unsuccessful, and we now find ourselves in a position where it is evident that the East Midlands is unable to operate as a functioning Regional Association.
As a result, over the coming months East Midlands clubs will be supported to transition to and join neighbouring Regional Associations in advance of the Championship season starting in October 2026 with the Development Championships. We anticipate that clubs will be formally adopted as members of these neighbouring regions during their upcoming AGMs in the summer of 2026, and EB will support to ensure that these updates are suitably configured on The Locker to provide minimal disruption.
We will be working directly with the clubs and Regions involved to consult and ensure that you have a voice in the next stages of their membership with EB and how this transition is conducted, and to raise any issues that might require mitigation.
We recognise that primary concern of members will be to understand where their clubs are proposed to be relocated and how this will impact on their annual regional fees.
As such, a breakdown of the East Midlands counties where clubs are based, their proposed regional relocations, and the fees charged within each of those regions are detailed within the attached proposal document and published on the EB website (HERE). We hope this information will help inform your views and provide full transparency for this process of consultation.
Additionally, we recognise that clubs within the East Midlands will want to know what will happen to the funds held within the East Midlands Regional bank accounts.
England Boxing will not be deciding on this but will empower and support clubs to capture your thoughts and wishes within this consultation for how those funds will be used. We will provide our full support to ensure that the funds held within the regional accounts are used in accordance with those wishes.
We recognise that this news will come as a surprise for some clubs, and that it will be a welcome relief to many others following a long period of unrest. It is our primary aim to support clubs in this transition and we welcome your help in ensuring that this process is as smooth as possible. It is our intention to compile results of the consultation and feedback to all parties by mid-May 2026, so please keep a look out for our communications closer to that time.
Should you have any queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us using enquiries@englandboxing.org or 0114 223 5654.
