EB Safeguarding Week – Day 5 – Creating Safer and Positive Environments
January 30, 2026 | by Graham Hurst
A safer and positive environment is one where everyone — especially children, young people or adults at risk — feel protected, respected, and supported.
Highlights
- NEW Safer Recruitment guidance
- NEW CWO Poster template
- NEW Boxing: A Guide for Parents and Carers
It’s about more than just preventing harm; it’s about creating the right conditions for confidence, enjoyment, and growth in boxing.
Safer Recruitment
To support clubs with fostering safer and positive environments we have created a new guide covering Safer Recruitment of volunteers. This short document gives clubs a framework for ensuring the right people are volunteering at your club. Click here
CWO Poster
This new poster template (in Word) is designed to help clubs ensure that your CWO is more visible and hopefully then recognisable and approachable for anyone that may wish to talk to them. Click here
Club Inductions
Another great (and free!) tool for creating safer and positive environments is club inductions. Inductions create a positive first impression and help new members feel part of the club community.
- Introduce key people at the club, (Head coaches, Club Welfare Officer) making it easier to ask questions or raise concerns later.
- Share important information such as the club’s rules, codes of conduct, safeguarding policies, and communication guidelines.
- Reinforce a culture of safety and respect.
- Encourage good communication and build trust between adults, children, and parents/carers from the very start.
Resources
Other guidance that can support with creating safer and positive environments are:
If you have examples of how you have created safer and positive cultures at you club then please do share those with us.
Empower & Embed
With the tools and resources that have been provided this week we challenge clubs to be reflective and consider how you could make steps to embed safeguarding best practices.
- Why not create a Safeguarding Action Plan for 2026 for your club to keep you on track.
- Perhaps you could move to having two CWOs at your club or even ask that the committee to undertake some additional safeguarding training to support the CWO in their role.
Safeguarding is never complete so the need to embed good practices as standard is an essential step in ensuring that we continue to protect all children, young people and adults at risk who participate in boxing.
