England Boxing is proud to introduce the team driving forward Moves Different, a pioneering new project that hopes to use the power of boxing to prevent young people from becoming involved in crime, violence, or antisocial behaviour.

Regional Project Leads: Connecting Clubs, Communities and Young People

L-R Top Row: Allen Kabanda, James Goulty Avoen Perryman, Daniel Tierney Bottom Row: Holly Boden, Francesca Russell, Louise Vidor, Michelle Butler, Kirsty McMahon.

At the heart of Moves Different are our Regional Project Leads. Their role is to build the relationships and infrastructure that ensure young people can access this opportunity safely, confidently and locally. Lead by Louise Vidor the Project Manager, they are bringing together a wealth of experience in sporting and community sectors to help make this project a success.

Throughout the mobilisation phase, this team has worked tirelessly with research partners, boxing clubs, schools, police forces, community groups and Youth Justice Services. Their job has been to bridge the gap between referral partners and participating clubs, making sure every young person who joins the programme is supported from the moment they are referred, to the moment they first step into a gym, and throughout their journey.

Their groundwork has laid the foundations for a programme centred on inclusion, safeguarding and opportunity.

Apprentices: Developing the Next Generation of Coaches and Community Leaders

Moves Different also proudly incorporates our England Boxing Community Apprentice programme in partnership with Coach Core and Lifetime Training. Apprentices gain hands-on experience delivering community sessions and engaging with local clubs and organisations.

During the programme, apprentices will earn a Level 3 Community Sport & Health Officer qualification through developing coaching, communication and administrative skills. Not only will they contribute directly to projects that use boxing to inspire young people and prevent crime, but they will act as role models to the young people, inspiring them to invest in the sport and themselves.

This apprenticeship provides an invaluable start for young professionals passionate about sport, community development and social impact.

Staff Training Days: Building Knowledge, Skills and Shared Purpose

On Thursday 27th and Friday 28th November, the Moves Different team came together for two days of induction, training and project planning. It was the first opportunity for many team members to meet face-to-face, share learning and align around the programme’s vision and values.

Friday’s agenda included Race Equity training delivered by Sporting Equals. The workshop focused on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, specifically exploring how race, identity and bias influence everyday interactions, decisions and environments.

This training forms a core part of Moves Different’s commitment to ensuring that everyone who engages with the programme feels valued and represented.

As Moves Different launches, the combined efforts of the regional project leads, apprentices and England Boxing staff have created a strong platform for success.

Through collaboration, training and shared purpose, the team is ready to bring this Moves Different to life, using boxing as a vehicle for social change and offering young people a path away from crime.
