The remaining bouts yet to be contested at the England Boxing National Youth Championships 2020 will be staged at Birtley ABC in the Tyne, Tees and Wear region on Saturday 29th February and Sunday 1st March.

All bouts will be boxed behind closed doors, with only boxers and their England Boxing-affiliated coaches allowed access to the venue.

The event will be live streamed on the England Boxing YouTube channel, as normal, to allow family and friends to watch the bouts.

Semi-final bouts will be boxed on the Saturday, with weigh-in from 10am to 12noon and the boxing to start at 1pm.

Finals bouts will follow on the Sunday, with weigh-in from 9am to 11am and the boxing to start at 12noon.

New bout lists will be issued on Wednesday 26th February to accommodate clubs with more than one boxer taking part.

“We were all shocked and saddened by events at Coventry that did not allow the England Boxing National Youth Championships to be boxed through to completion,” said England Boxing’s Competitions and Events Manager Lynsey Lockey.

“We are determined that boxers should still get the opportunity to box for the right to be a national champion after all the sacrifices they, their coaches, their clubs and their families have made to get them to this point.

“Our thanks go to Birtley, which has regularly and successfully hosted key regional events, for stepping in to act as the venue at such short notice and making sure that the continuation of the Championships happens.

“We would also thank all those who have offered support to ensure the event can proceed.”

Located close to Gateshead, Newcastle and Sunderland, Birtley is the home club of Tokyo 2020 hopefuls Pat and Luke McCormack.
