England Boxing marks World Parkinson’s Day 2026 with continued commitment
April 11, 2026 | by Chris Boyd
With England Boxing firmly committed to improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s, the organisation joins the global community in recognising World Parkinson’s Day 2026.
Observed on 11 April, the date marks the birthday of Dr James Parkinson, who first identified the condition. The day serves to raise awareness worldwide and highlight the estimated 11.8 million people currently living with Parkinson’s.
Over the past two years, England Boxing has continued to reinforce the message that structured physical activity and social connection can significantly improve the quality of life for those affected. This commitment has been demonstrated through the successful launch of the Coaching People with Parkinson’s Course and the development of more than 30 affiliated Parkinson’s Hubs across the country.
Barnet and Southgate College Boxing Academy delivers inaugural Parkinson’s Activity Day
On Wednesday, 8th April, Barnet and Southgate College Boxing Academy proudly delivered their Inaugural Parkinson’s Activity Day at New City College in Redbridge, bringing together people living with Parkinson’s, carers, families, healthcare professionals, instructors, and community organisations for a truly meaningful day.
The event was designed to showcase the importance of movement, wellbeing, and community support in living well with Parkinson’s. Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to take part in a wide range of inclusive activities, including non-contact boxing, walking football, neuro physiotherapy, LSVT voice therapy, table tennis, and other social and wellbeing sessions.
Alongside the activities, information stalls and a panel discussion provided valuable insight, support, and opportunities for connection. The day created a safe, welcoming, and energetic environment where individuals could try new activities, build confidence, and form meaningful connections with others on a similar journey.
One of the most powerful aspects of the day was the diversity of those in attendance. The event brought together people of all ages, backgrounds, and communities, reflecting the true reach and impact of Parkinson’s and reinforcing the importance of inclusive, community-led initiatives.
The club received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with many highlighting not only the quality of the sessions but also the sense of belonging and inspiration felt throughout the day.
Their inaugural event marks the beginning of something much bigger. It has laid a strong foundation for future activity days and continued community engagement, reinforcing a clear message: Exercise, connection, and community are key to improving quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s.
The Coaching People with Parkinson’s Course continues to thrive
The official launch of the England Boxing Coaching People with Parkinson’s course, delivered in partnership with Parkinson’s UK, took place almost 18 months ago. In that time, the programme has gone from strength to strength.
As of today, World Parkinson’s Day 2026, 137 individuals have attended courses across England Boxing regions, and we are looking forward to crossing the 150-attendee milestone following our final regional course – funded by Parkinson’s UK.
England Boxing’s Parkinson’s Project Lead, Harrison Frew, reiterated the power of boxing for those living with Parkinson’s: “It has been a real privilege to lead such an impactful and innovative project – one that has the potential to make a meaningful difference to so many lives.
“The growing body of evidence highlighting the benefits of boxing for people living with Parkinson’s is incredibly encouraging, and it has been fantastic to see so many clubs embrace the initiative and become more community-focused.
“I would strongly encourage all clubs to engage in projects like this, helping to ensure our sport is inclusive, diverse and accessible to everyone.”
The last course in this initial rollout will take place in Tyne, Tees and Wear on Saturday, 23rd May. England Boxing strongly encourages clubs and coaches in this region to express their interest via the following link and join the growing network of clubs already seeing the benefits of running Parkinson’s Hubs.
