Brandon Boxing Club officially opened

Brandon Boxing Club (BBC) have got double cause to celebrate – their new gym has been officially opened (2 April) and coach Alex Oliver has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year’s Honours List.
A surprised Oliver commented:
“I was over the moon to be listed in the New Years honours list. Obviously running a club is one big team effort and I wouldn’t be able to do it without the support network of my wife, family and coaches. I’d like to thank everyone for taking time out of their day to come along and BBC photographer Michael Young for taking the pictures. It was a lovely occasion, thanks to Ian and Stephen Atkinson for the first class hospitality and lovely buffet. My daughter Kara-mai has just had surgery but she managed to make the day.
“I was taken aback by the plaque that my wife Michelle had made and installed in the gym – although I’ve been that stressed lately I’ve apparently walked passed it twice without noticing it!
“The BBC is one massive team effort and we continue to grow and get stronger.”
Club Support Officer Matthew Williams commented: “Brandon was recently established as a new club when I took up my post and it has been fantastic to see just how quickly they have grown. Alex and his team do a brilliant job and deserve every success that comes their way. I’d like to congratulate everybody at Brandon Boxing Club, and look forward to seeing the club continue to grow in their new home.”
