Billericay and Wickford’s Caleb Holdbrook, 10, will be making his full amateur boxing debut on the same show that his dad, Patrick, will be having his very last bout.

Patrick started boxing with the club at 38 years of age, with his enthusiasm and willingness to learn so great that he soon took on the challenge of training up to compete.

He has since been taking on fair 50/50 bouts until reaching the upper age limit of 40.

Caleb, meanwhile, has already managed to have a couple of skills bouts and is getting ready for his first full competition bout – just as his dad will hang up his gloves.

However, Patrick will not be lost to the sport as he has recently passed his Level 1 England Boxing Coaches Course, so will be helping out at the gym.

Billericay and Wickford coach Les Cooke said: “Genuine, good people are hard to find these days, and we are very lucky to have Patrick as part of our team.

“We’d like to wish both boxers good luck when they compete on our show on Saturday 25th May.”
