Another Women’s Aspire camp was hosted by England Boxing in honour of International Women’s Day on Sunday (8th March) at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. It also included an educational sports bra workshop with our partners, BoobyDoo.

A cohort of 98 female boxers attended the exciting event – ranging from the schools age category straight through to seniors, all of whom showcased their talent and dedication to growth.

The session focused on the 5 pillars of England Boxing (before, after, distance, space and tempo) and was led by Pathway Coaches, Naadrah Hafeez and Laura Sargent. The overall day consisted of 5 groups and 5 stations:

  • Technical/conditioned sparring
  • Shadow and reactions
  • Rules and scoring with Mike Hemming,
  • Pads and bags
  • Seminar with sponsors, BoobyDoo.

The occasion was rounded off with an opportunity to hear from World Silver Medallist, Emily Asquith who shared her journey/experience and gave the girls an opportunity to ask questions and take pictures.

A special thank you to England Boxing Pathway Coaches Michelle Nelson, Kerry Chalk and Kate Flynn, along with group leads Samera Ali and Alex Bachra, for delivering a fantastic programme of activities.

We also extend our appreciation to the coaches from the Women’s Coach Development Programme, the Ethnically Diverse Coach Development Programme and all club coaches who shared their knowledge and supported the development of these athletes.

Finally, thank you to Emily Asquith, Mike Hemming and our partners at BoobyDoo for their support, and to Clive Wood and Luke Bartlett for capturing the day.
