A young amateur boxer from Western Counties club Devizes ABC has just completed an indoor floor climb equivalent to the height of Mount Snowdon for cancer charity Marie Curie.

Jack Smith, 13, made 475 uphill floor climbs and has raised more tha £500 as a result.

The teenager completed the challenge in a time of three hours 38 mins.

Club officials at Devizes have been very supportive, with lead coach Paul Wilkins and Mike Hemming helping to promote event.

“Jack always works hard when he trains with us at Devizes, so we weren’t surprised to see him continue this during lockdown,” said Hemming, who is also the Western Counties regional secretary. “He had been combining home circuit training alongside his regular running, which he has been logging on Strava.”

“Jack’s efforts with his indoor Mount Snowdon climb was an ingenious and novel way of keeping fit as well as raising much needed funds for a great cause, one which is close to his heart.

“We are very impressed and proud of Jack in everything he has done during he lockdown, especially reaching his own Wiltshire summit of Mount Snowdon.”
